Job Overview
As a Creative Writer at UBC, your primary responsibility will be to craft engaging, persuasive, and accessible content that represents the Faculty of Medicine’s impact and values. You will be instrumental in developing a unified voice for the Faculty’s diverse communications channels. Your writing will span various formats, including editorial pieces, headlines, social media content, and scripts for multimedia projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Content Creation: Develop compelling narratives for UBC’s Faculty of Medicine, including headlines, social media posts, video scripts, and institutional overviews. Your writing should align with the Faculty’s strategic goals and effectively communicate with target audiences.
- Project Leadership: Lead the ideation and conceptualization of Faculty initiatives, campaigns, and content. Oversee the development and maintenance of content across digital platforms, ensuring consistency with UBC’s branding and communication guidelines.
- Content Management: Manage and update content on various platforms, including UBC’s digital magazine and social media channels. Ensure that all content assets align with the Faculty’s content strategy and UBC’s branding guidelines.
- Strategic Consultation: Provide writing-focused strategic communications and marketing consultation to other Faculty communicators. Liaise with and oversee external content creators, including freelance writers and design firms.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- Education: An undergraduate degree in a relevant field is required. A degree in Creative Writing, Communication Arts, or a related discipline is preferred.
- Experience: A minimum of five years of experience in journalism, advertising, or a digital agency as a creative copywriter, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Skills: Proven versatility in writing, with a portfolio demonstrating high-quality work. Experience with content management systems and digital engagement strategies is essential. Familiarity with SEO best practices and digital storytelling techniques is preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience: Experience in writing about medicine, science, or health is considered an asset. Multilingual capabilities are also advantageous.
- Expertise: Strong knowledge of digital content strategies and SEO, along with the ability to create impactful branded storytelling.
Working Conditions
The Creative Writer will operate independently under the general guidance of the Editor-In-Chief of Pathways Magazines. The role requires a high degree of judgment and decision-making to ensure that all content meets the Faculty’s high standards and contributes positively to the UBC brand.
