Overview:

School District #81 (Fort Nelson) is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Educational Assistant to join its team for a part-time term appointment. Located in the beautiful community of Fort Nelson, BC, this role offers a competitive hourly wage of $26.34. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting students with diverse learning, social, emotional, and behavioral needs, contributing to their overall success and well-being in the school environment.

Position Details:

  • Work Hours: 5 hours and 45 minutes daily
  • Term: September 23, 2024, to December 20, 2024, or until the return of the incumbent, with a potential end date of June 20, 2025.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Student Support: Provide individualized support to students with various learning needs, including social, emotional, and behavioral challenges. Assist students in navigating their educational journey and achieving their academic goals.
  • Supervision: Offer general supervision to students, ensuring a safe and supportive learning environment. Be adaptable to working with students across different subjects and settings within the school.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with teachers and staff to develop and implement strategies that address each student’s unique needs. Communicate effectively with both students and colleagues to foster a positive educational experience.
  • Flexibility: Be prepared to participate in various school programs, including potentially assisting with swimming programs if required.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Secondary School graduation (High School Diploma or GED).
  • Experience: Previous experience working with children is preferred. An equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered.
  • Skills: Strong organizational skills and the ability to communicate effectively with students and staff are essential. Maintain a high degree of confidentiality regarding student information.
  • Cultural Competency: Familiarity with Indigenous culture is an asset and will be considered favorably.
  • Background Check: A clear Criminal Record Check is required.
