Overview:

The University of Winnipeg is seeking two qualified individuals to fill the role of Marker for the Fall 2024 academic term. This position involves grading and providing support for academic writing courses, specifically RHET-1105 and RHET-1115. The role is ideal for undergraduate students who have completed relevant coursework and are looking to contribute to the academic community. The work will be conducted remotely.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Grading: Evaluate and grade student assignments, tests, exams, lab results, and other coursework using specific guidelines and answer keys provided by the Immediate Supervisor.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of graded materials and assist in reproducing tests. Organize and manage course materials efficiently.
  • Proctoring: Assist with the proctoring or invigilating of tests, exams, and quizzes as needed.
  • Student Consultation: Provide feedback and consultation to students regarding their coursework, quality of submissions, and other related matters.
  • Training and Development: Attend any necessary training related to grading and other assigned duties.
  • Additional Tasks: Perform other related tasks as required by the Immediate Supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Academic Background: Completion of relevant academic studies or experience related to the duties. Typically, candidates will be undergraduate students at the University of Winnipeg who have completed at least 30 credit hours.
  • Previous Coursework: Successful completion of RHET-1105 with a grade of B+ or higher.
  • Skills:
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently or collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Competency in following oral and written instructions, marking guides, policies, and procedures.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Empathetic interaction with students and capability to perform assigned duties.

Additional Requirements:

  • Eligibility: Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Application Materials: Applicants must include their U of W student number and an unofficial WebAdvisor transcript. This transcript should be copied and pasted into the resume document submitted.
  • Selection Criteria: Past academic performance, particularly in relevant courses, will be a significant factor in the selection process.
