Key Responsibilities
As a Senior Flight Test Engineer at Bombardier, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that aircraft are safe and ready for operation. Working in both production and experimental environments, your main duties will include:
- Flight Duties:
- Regularly perform flight duties on production aircraft as a Flight Test Engineer.
- Ensure the safety of all test operations in coordination with the Manager of Flight Operations and the Chief Pilot.
- Test Planning and Execution:
- Plan and prepare flight tests, ensuring compliance with flight safety standards.
- Oversee test operations for both ground and in-flight testing, making sure aircraft are configured correctly for each test.
- Vet and approve Non-Conformity Reports (NCRs) and Restrictions/Special Instructions (RSIs).
- Collaboration:
- Work with various teams, including System Engineering, Flight Sciences, and Pre-Flight teams, to ensure smooth planning, execution, and documentation of tests.
- Coordinate with Bombardier’s Flight Test Center (Wichita), Laurent Beaudoin Completion Center (Montreal), and third-party completion centers for testing requirements.
- Documentation:
- Prepare and write detailed test documentation following Bombardier’s Flight Test Center standards.
- Develop test cards and plans from Test Definition Sheets (TDS) and document test outcomes.
- Safety & Compliance:
- Strictly follow FAA, Transport Canada, and company regulations concerning aircraft testing.
- Ensure the correct use of safety equipment, risk mitigation methods, and testing procedures.
- Lead briefings, including pre-and post-flight briefings, Test Hazard Analysis (THA), and Test Readiness Assessments (SOF).
- Additional Responsibilities:
- Perform other tasks as assigned by management, including troubleshooting, risk management, and test equipment operations.
Qualifications
To thrive in this role, you’ll need a mix of technical expertise, industry experience, and strong communication skills. Key qualifications include:
- Educational Background: A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (P.Eng) is essential. A Master’s degree in Engineering or Aviation or graduation from a Test Pilot School is considered an asset.
- Experience: At least 10 years of experience in Aerospace Engineering, with specific expertise in Flight Test Engineering.
- Familiarity with Civil/Commercial aircraft certification under Part 25 is highly desirable.
- Previous experience in aircraft system operations, including interpreting schematics and system configurations, is a must.
- Licenses and Technical Skills:
- A private or commercial pilot’s license is beneficial.
- Strong working knowledge of MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project & Access).
- Excellent organizational, planning, and communication skills.
- Personal Attributes:
- Self-motivated, with a proactive approach to work.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to travel for short or extended periods, both domestically and internationally.
